The purpose of this development log is to provide some clarity regarding the choice of game engines for the development of the Touch Paradise XXX series of games.

Touch Paradise XXX started its life as 'Pocket Paradise - Latina Sensations' back in 2016. It was an idea that was brought to life using the AppGameKit.

However in 2023, the project and all subsequent titles under the Touch Paradise XXX umbrella have been moved over to the Cocos based game development technologies (e.g. Cocos Creator).

It's very easy to assume that this was done purely because Cocos based game development technologies are simply better than what the AppGameKit has to offer in general.

I'm here today to tell you that the decision to move the project to a different engine was purely based on what the engine has to offer to the project, and how well it will complement the development of the project and all subsequent titles.

Every engine has it strengths and weaknesses. And when I looked at each engine side by side, Cocos did come out on top for what I was looking to achieve. What this means is that the choice of game engines is subjective, and not necessarily a case of one totally surpassing the other in overall capabilities.

Those of you who are familiar with AppGameKit will know that it is a 'code and deploy' approach which is very lean and efficient.

I have also found that coding and deploying a project from AppGameKit and AppGameKit studio has got to be among the most painless deployment and packaging experiences I have ever encountered as a developer. It really is that easy.

While the 'code and deploy' approach might come across as 'old school' to some game developers, it really does give you a great deal of control over what you're building.  On top of that, AppGameKit is always constantly improving.

What does this mean ?

It means that AppGameKit will continue to be used for research and development purposes. I haven't abandoned it at all.

As a matter of fact, Touch Paradise XXX wouldn't even exist today without AppGameKit.

This is a fact.

I will always use AppGameKit in some way or form, but at the moment, I've decided that Cocos is and will be the primary game engine used for game development for the foreseeable future.

Plus it's genuinely awesome 😎

I just thought I should clear that up.
